Digital Development Awards by the USAID USA 2022/2023
Digital Development Awards USAID is working toward a future where digital technology enables inclusive growth, fosters resilient and democratic societies, and empowers everyone, including the most vulnerable and marginalized. To determine Missions, Bureaus, and enforcing partners that are helping countries and communities work toward tolerable growth and resilience, is content to announce the 2022 Digital Development Awards (the Digis).
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government that is largely accountable for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance. With a budget of over $27 billion, is one of the largest official aid agencies in the world and accounts for more than half of all U.S. foreign assistance the highest in the world in total dollar terms.
mission statement, assumed in February 2018, is:
“On behalf of the American people, we encourage and establish democratic matters abroad, and advance a free, peaceful, and prosperous world. In support of America’s foreign policy, the U.S. Agency for International Development leads the U.S. Government’s international development and disaster assistance via partnerships and investments that save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen democratic governance, and help people arise from humanitarian crises and progress beyond assistance.”
Modes of assistance
provides both technical assistance and financial assistance.
Technical assistance contains technical advice, training, scholarships, construction, and commodities. Technical service is acquired or procured by and supplied in-kind to recipients. For technical advisory services, draws on professionals from the private sector, especially from the assisted country’s pool of expertise, as well as from technical USG agencies. Many host-government leaders have drawn on technical assistance for the development of IT systems and computer hardware procurement to strengthen their institutions.
Financial assistance provides cash to creating country organizations to increase their budgets. also supplies financial assistance to local and international NGOs who in turn give specialized assistance in developing countries. Although USAID previously supplied loans, all financial assistance is now provided in the form of non-reimbursable grants.
While can have as little company in a country as a single person appointed to the U.S. Embassy, a full mission in a larger country may have twenty or more USAID Foreign Service Officers and a hundred or more professional and administrative employees from the country itself.
The mission’s staff is separated into technical offices in three groups: (1) assistance management offices; (2) the Mission Director’s and the Program office; and (3) the contracting, financial management, and facilities offices.
